Mexico is the world's 6th largest oil producer and the 3rd largest
supplier to the U.S. But Mexican oil reserves may have peaked.
Mexico's state-owned oil company, Pemex, has a monopoly on the entire
Mexican petroleum infrastructure. For many years the company endured
a slim profit margin, but recent price spikes have brought in substantial

Mexico's largest field is the offshore Cantarell field (15 to 23

decline. Many experts believe that Cantarell will decline precipitously
in the next few years, with serious consequences for the Mexican economy.
Mexico's 2nd largest field is Chicontepec field (17 billion barrels).
