FRANCE - French Republic

France is the 6th largest economy in the world with highly-developed industrial, agricultural and service sectors.

But like other developed economies, France does not produce enough domestic petroleum to support its economy and high standard of living.

To reduce its dependency on imported fossil fuels, France has relied heavily on the development of nuclear power. France generates almost 80% of its electricity from nuclear power plants.

Much of France's petroleum is imported from Algeria (a former French colony).
