Domain Archaea
Methanopyrales

Methanopyrus kandleri

The Methanopyrales form chains of rod-shaped cells. They move with tufts of flagella.

They are extreme heat-loving organisms, growing best at temperatures between 190ºF and 210ºF

The Methanopyrales produce methane by combining carbon dioxide with hydrogen from rocks in geothermal springs and undersea hot ventss.

The Methanopyrales have ancient Archaean DNA that has had little gene transfer with other organisms.
